These little medicine cabinets have a special place in my heart – and in my shop too! I have already sent several of them to new homes, and every time I refurbish one, I fall in love again with that honest, old-time shaker-style charm. This one is no exception: warm pine, chippy white paint and a cute wooden knob – it just makes you smile.

This small, shaker-style wall cabinet is made of solid pine wood, with a plywood panel in the middle of the door and a brass keyhole plate. The old white paint was worn and shabby, so I sanded it carefully and kept the original, time-worn look. Then I refinished the whole piece inside-out with a premium furniture wax, for a soft satin finish that is durable and ready for everyday use.

Inside there is a shelf you can remove if you need more space for taller things, and the door closes nicely with new hardware. It's a perfect medicine cabinet, a kitchen cabinet for cups and glasses, or bathroom storage for towels and toiletries. It looks wonderful in a rustic, shaker farmhouse, French cottage or Provence style interior. And if you like DIY: add legs or wheels, and it becomes a sweet nightstand or bedside cabinet!

Complete the rustic look with a handwoven wool tapestry by Hungarian textile artist Eva Nemeth – her earthy colors and natural textures are a perfect match for this cabinet. >> Explore the Eva Nemeth Tapestry & Rug Collection <<
