I’m Marti, the heart and hands behind Retro Cube Home, a one-woman vintage tapestry shop based in the quiet countryside of Hungary. I run this business with a lot of care, love, and excitement — especially when I come across a beautiful mid-century piece that I can share with you.

 

 

How It All Started

Back in the 2010s, my husband and I bought a 1970s fixer-upper. We renovated it ourselves, slowly and on a tight budget, determined to stay mortgage-free. With most of our money going into construction, we turned to Facebook Marketplace for the rest — and what we found sparked something special.

We stumbled upon mid-century treasures: handcrafted pottery, sleek furniture, woven rugs, and stunning wall hangings. These vintage items had so much more charm and soul than anything mass-produced. I fell in love, especially with the rich textures and unique designs of tapestries.

Why Tapestries? 

There’s something magical about textile art. Whether it’s a one-of-a-kind handmade piece or a wall hanging created by a designer for larger production, each tapestry tells a story. I’m especially drawn to the colors, craftsmanship, and warmth that mid-century textile art brings to a space.

Over time, we collected more vintage pieces than we had room for — and that’s when the idea for the shop started to form.

 

From Passion to Shop

After my daughter was born, I knew it was time to turn this love of vintage decor into something more. I started selling on Etsy and eBay in 2019. Thanks to the wonderful support and encouragement from buyers around the world, I’m thrilled to now welcome you to my own webshop.
