This beautiful vintage tapestry depicts a small village exactly like the one where it was made in the 1970s. Skillfully handwoven by the cottage industry weavers of Mezőtúr, Hungary - this decorative piece honors the hundreds of women who worked closely together with award-winning designers like Janos Kordovaner.

In the heyday of the Mezőtúr Yarn Refinement and Carpet Weaving Cooperative, 4-500 people - mostly women - worked in a thriving community, largely on their home looms. The designs dreamed up by János Kordováner came to life in the woolen rugs they made. The textile artist refused to add his own signature to his work, insisting that the women who tirelessly wove the rugs thread-by-thread deserved just as much credit as his own design! 

Finished with beautiful cream fringes along the bottom, it works gorgeously to add acoustic softness and deep autumnal "Hygge" warmth to a mid-century amber living space, an eclectic hallway, or above a crib in a storybook-themed retro nursery!

This large, comforting textile is like a retro fairytale that you can literally feel! Showcasing a highly geometric sleepy little village, glowing wonderfully under a crescent moon and stars, this artwork leans beautifully into stunning 70s Earth Tones—deep chocolate browns, sweet ambers, sunny mustard yellow, and natural beige.

Authentic 1970s European cottage industry textile, of heavy flat-woven wool and cotton. 

Fast Installation: Small metal hanging rings are neatly hand-sewn onto the upper back hem. It is perfectly ready to hang upon arrival! (The styling clips & rod shown in pictures are props and not included).
