Vintage Hand-Knotted Silk Bokhara Rug – Signed, Rust Red, 4x7'

A rug you just have to touch. I couldn't believe how silky and smooth this is! Notice the little woven signature in the border: this is not an ordinary rug, but a proud piece of handwork with its own story.

This is a vintage hand-knotted silk rug in the classic Bokhara style – more exactly the Jaldar design, with rows of diamond-shaped Turkoman guls on a deep, glowing rust red field. Around it, wide mauve and dusty rose borders are full of tiny tribal motifs, and a soft cream fringe finishes both ends. This style was most likely made in Pakistan, in the second half of the 20th century.

The signature is woven right into the pile – the mark of the workshop or master weaver, and a lovely detail for every collector. The pile is low, dense and silky, with a beautiful sheen that changes as the light moves. On the back you can clearly see the fine knots and the pattern, which shows that it's truly and skillfully hand-knotted.

With its size it's perfect for a bedroom, home office, library, living room or entryway. It looks wonderful with dark wood and leather furniture, but also in an eclectic or grandmillennial home. And thanks to the immaculate silk sheen, it can be a stunning wall hanging too.
